Scouts/Squirrels
At Yoxford and Peasenhall we have Scouting fully embedded within our curriculum, for all pupils from Years R to Year 6. Operating under the direction of 1st Fressingfield Scout Group, we provide a structure of badges and awards, which are progressive through the sections, and based on a number of objectives. The scouting activities are organised and led by Uniformed Scout members of the Scout Association, and the objectives are based on Scouting’s Purpose to ‘actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society’. The partnership between the school and the Scouting movement is of national significance and fits perfectly with the national agenda, particularly referring to the directives coming out of the Department of Education and Ofsted around curriculum design and offering our children a much broader experience.
In our recent Ofsted report, September 2019, the lead inspector wrote ‘Pupils value the opportunities they have beyond the core academic curriculum. All pupils in Years 1 to 6 are members of the Scout Association and take part in the meetings every Friday afternoon. The pupils are clear about how they develop skills in being independent, challenging themselves and being active. The activities also support their understanding of British values and the world around them.’
